It looks like the heavens heard us call Russian billionaire Andrew Guryev’s $120 million Alfa Nero superyacht an ambassador of inactivity and didn’t like it. Only hours later, we learned that the Government of Antigua and Barbuda had bagged the license to auction the luxury vessel. Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced the decision during the National Assembly of Antigua and Barbuda.

The permit allows the sale of the 267-footer to anyone who doesn’t feature in any sanctions list and will receive a license from the US Treasury to engage in financial transactions related to the Alfa Nero. The Caribbean nation had gone to great lengths to deter damage that could fall upon the vessel abandoned since February 2022. They even approved amendments to the Antigua Port Authority Act, which was imperative to sell Alfa Nero.

The Alfa Nero is in demand-
The Antiguan Defense Force took over the luxury vessel to expedite its sale process. A whopping 20 possible buyers offered to buy the elegant Oceanco beauty, proving the 16-year-old ship is still coveted. Some interested parties expressed a desire to buy the stateless vessel outright. According to the chief of staff of the Prime Minister’s office, they received bids as high as $72 million, with offers pouring in from countries like France, Saudi Arabia, Monaco, New Zealand, and more.

After being docked in the Falmouth Harbor in Antigua since March 2022, it will be a relief for everyone involved to see the stunning Alfa Nero journey on. While the nation will be free of $100,000 monthly maintenance bills, the bored-to-death crew idling and playing Call of Duty onboard will also find a purpose.
